If you've ever hankered for a meal just like your mum used tomake but didn't have the time, inclination or even the skills towhip it up Stroud's newest cafe could be just what you need.

Findlay's, based just a stone's throw from the town centre inNelson Street, is a family-friendly, fully-licensed cafe andtakeaway specialising in traditional English food.

Before the idea became a reality business partners Mike Findlayand Carly Taylor dreamed of offering Stroud foodies good quality,home-cooked takeaway meals for those nights when cooking simplyisn't an option.

While customers can still take away anything from the Findlay'smenu it has morphed into a fully-fledged cafe with a bistro feelwhich already has a loyal band of regulars.

Carly said: "We did see it solely as a takeaway to begin with asthere's nothing like that in Stroud but it hasn't really worked outthat way.

"The cafe has taken off as a venue in its own right, which isbrilliant."

Findlay's opens at 10am with a breakfast menu which ranges from afull English to boiled eggs and soldiers and bacon and sausagebaguettes.

Filled baguettes also feature on the lunch menu, along withomelettes and a home-cooked dish of the day.

The evening menu changes nightly and includes such dishes ashomemade faggots, chicken and bacon pie and beef and stilton stewwith suet dumplings, with vegetarian options available.

With the cafe also offering wifi internet access and free coffeerefills it's fast becoming one of Stroud's favourite places to wileaway the hours.

Carly, who worked as a chef in France before returning to Stroudto work in Bar Nine, added: "We have a party room which can be hiredout for private functions. It seats between 16 and 22 guests so it'sa nice, intimate space.

"We have a nice balcony for smokers to have some quiet time whileenjoying beautiful views."

Findlay's is open Monday to Friday, 10am to 9pm and 10am untillate on Saturdays and Sundays.
